Positively Nutritious Food Bank
Started in 1994 by several dedicated volunteers and donations from local community groups, ACSNJ’s Positively Nutritious Food Bank has been a source of strength for many men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS over the years. Located on the outskirts of Camden City near Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, our Positively Nutritious Food Bank acknowledges the special nutritional needs of individuals living with HIV/AIDS and provides additional sources of food in order to keep clients healthy. Each day, nutritionally balanced, supplemental groceries such as fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy products, grains, baked goods and specialty items are delivered to low-income clients and families across Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties. We provide a variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack foods to last for three days per person in the household. It is this delivery of food items that makes Positively Nutritious stand out from other programs – we bring the food to our clients so they don’t have to go out.
ACSNJ clients can obtain food deliveries from Positively Nutritious through their Medical Case Manager who will complete an Initial Food Bank Application. Once completed, the application will be sent to the Positively Nutritious Coordinator for review. Individuals living with HIV/AIDS who are case managed by other local agencies can also access Positively Nutritious by contacting with their Case Manager and asking him/her to follow this same procedure. Generally, eligible clients will begin receiving their groceries within several days of admission. In case of immediate nutritional need, a client can apply for an Emergency Food Bank Delivery through their Medical Case Manager and they will receive food within 1 to 2 business days. Clients can apply for this emergency service up to two times per year.
At Positively Nutritious, our aim is to be a step along the path to help ease the burden of finding sustenance while living with a life-altering disease. As the late son of one of the founders of Positively Nutritious said, “Make sure that everybody is fed” – and that is what we do.
